EVANGELISTIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers for overseas projects want to give a positive witness of their faith in Jesus Christ and hope to be able to lead someone to know Him as Savior and Lord. Circumstances and opportunities will vary from project to project. Volunteers will also vary in their ability to communicate their faith. Here are a few observations with the hope that they will facilitate this desire and assist the volunteers to have a rewarding experience.
For the individual to consider:
Pray for the leadership of the Holy Spirit in your personal life.
Be sensitive to opportunities that come your way.
Be prepared to give a simple, short and straightforward testimony of your personal faith in Jesus.
Be honest, but avoid being dramatic or communicating your doubts.
Write out your testimony in English and have it translated. A good outline to follow is:
a. my life before I knew Jesus as Savior,
b. how I came to know Jesus,
c. the difference Jesus made in my life,
d. my life since I trusted Jesus as my Savior.
Ask someone fluent in both English and Spanish to help translate or explain if you get bogged down.
Secure a bilingual New Testament and become familiar with handling it.
Take a supply of evangelistic tracts to hand out. Your pastor or Director of Missions may be able to direct you toward a source for these tracts.
Let your daily conduct, attitudes, speech and clothing speak as loudly and clearly as your words.
For the Group Leader or Coordinator:
1. Allow funds for evangelistic materials in your mission project budget. These materials may be acquired in several different ways, some of which include: printing the materials at your church or having them printed for you, ordering them from a US company, ordering them from the country of missions travel and/or sending money for the missionary to secure the materials ahead of time.
2. Miskito language tracks, and Miskito children’s coloring books can be down loaded on the website: www.miskitomissions.com
2. For a list of possible sources for evangelistic literature in Spanish check the website: www.wmpress.org
3. Plan on leaving behind any excess literature you may have acquired or brought for the use of the local church or for the missionaries with whom you cooperate.
