MISKITO CHURCH PLANTING IN THE LOWER COCO RIVER
VILLAGE OF SAWA - The Miskito pastors had made a preliminary visit to this village in March 2008. Several people indicated a desire to know more about the evangelical gospel. In May, when the FBC Griffin vision team visited the village and the pastors met with a group of about 20 people, several made professions of faith. The pastors retuned in June and baptized 18 and began to disciple the new believers. In August the pastors took 20 sheets of tin down the river and helped the new believers erect a simple pole shed to meet under.
A young man name Brian was chosen to attend the upcoming Bible Institute training in Waspam. Brian is now leading the congregation in regular worship. In November, the FBC Griffin evangelism team returned to Sawa. The team went house to house, leaving a gospel presentation and a double mosquitio net with household. The team prayed for each family and their needs. That night after presenting the the Jesus film on the bank of the river, about 20 people came forward to receive Christ. The next morning, the team led the children in games and a Bible story, while the pastors spent some time discipling the new believers under the little tin shed. Afterward 15 young adults and children were baptized in the river. This new congregation now has a total of 35 believers who are meeting regularly under the small tin shed and being lead by a young man who is training to be a spiritual leader for his community.
