STRUKA YAMNI
The Good News (Sturka Yamni) radio station broadcasts 12 hours every day. City electricy is the limiting factor. The electrity in Puerto Lempia comes on around 11:00 every moring. The radio anouncer at the only Miskito Christian radio station in Honduras is ready to begin playing Christian music the minute the switch is flipped sending electricity and Christian music into homes. The 5 regular anouncers take turns doing 4 hours shifts keeping the radio on the air till the electricity goes off around 9:00 at night. Despite all the political problem in Honduras the radio station has stayed on the air. The station is completely managed by the Baptist Miskito Association. For the last two years the Association has paid all the electric bills and given the anouncers a small stipend for their work. It has not been easy, especially as the cost of electricity goes up. Several churches in Perry, Florida continue to assit the radio with capital improvement and replacement of essential equipment. This past year partnership teams have helped replace the antenna and finish out some of the rooms. In addition, the teams help build a small area for a bookstore to sell Bibles and literature as well as snacks and drinks. The proceeds will help support the radio station. The Miskito radio station is now reaching almost a 1/3 of all the Miskito villages in Honduras and Nicaragua. The radio presents a clear gospel message and may be the only message of hope many Miskito people will ever hear.
